When will they make a Count Duckula movie? [Buffy the Vampire Slayer]

Posted in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, gossip, movies, North Americana on November 27, 2008 by jetsamjr

TwilightI went to see Twilight today. Surprisingly, I didn’t think it sucked (pun intended) – which is weird, considering that the book series on which the movies is based is execrebly awful. Seriously, don’t read them.

Anyway. Some folks are wondering whether Twilight‘s runaway success might push along the long-hoped-for Buffy movie*. And when I say “some folks” I mean “the geeks at io9 who aren’t exactly objective about the whole thing”. But still: Buffy movie, neat! (SMG will never go for it, but it’s not like the role hasn’t been recast before, right?)

*Yes – I realise there has already been a Buffy movie. You know what I mean.

Carrie’s not knocked-up [Sex and the City]

Sex and the CitySarah Jessica Parker has knocked down rumours that Carrie will get knocked-up in the next Sex and the City movie, saying pregnancy doesn’t seem like a choice her character would make. So I guess this means that cinema’s most unnecessary sequel will have to rely on other contrived plot points to fill 90 minutes.

Michael Cera must die [Arrested Development]

Arrested Development

Good news: the Arrested Development cast is super-excited about shooting the long-awaited movie next year. Yay! Bad news: one unnamed castmember isn’t interested. But it’s obviously Michael Cera, who already said he didn’t want to do the movie.

Gah. Cera has basically played George Michael Bluth in all his subsequent films anyway, so I don’t see what the problem is – at least if he signs on to the AD movie no one will be able to accuse him of only being able to play the same character, since he will literally be playing the same character.

Anyway, the movie will go on with or without Cera.

Shut up, M. Night Shyamalan [WTF]

Posted in animation, kids' shows, movies, North Americana, WTF? on November 8, 2008 by jetsamjr

M. Night, who’s directing the live-action adaptation of kids’ cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender, is suffering from the delusion that he is a highly regarded auteur:

“Your instinct is to distill me down into three characteristics: thrillers, scary, twist. Let’s just say, ‘Oh, that’s what he does’… Then when they come see Last Airbender – which has none of those three things in there – and yet, you’ll be able to tell in 30 seconds that I directed it.”

Why, because it will be laboured, pretentious and shitty?

He goes on at length about his artistic vision, but I had to stop reading because it was endangering my sanity and wellbeing.

The glamorous zombie corpse that cannot be stopped [Sex and the City]

Sex and the CityKim Cattrall has seemingly confirmed that Sex and the City: The Movie II: The Sexening is set to become a reality.

Urgh. Seriously: what could this movie possibly be about? It’s not like Big can break up with Carrie again. It’s not like the girls can go on another road trip. Maybe an unexpected foray into science-fiction is on the cards?

Unsurprising HSM3 spoilers [High School Musical]

Posted in High School Musical, movies, North Americana, spoilerama on October 19, 2008 by jetsamjr

Variety has posted its first (mostly positive) review of High School Musical 3, and it reveals some very minor and completely unsurprisingly spoilers about the movie:

  • Zac Efron is the star. Gee, didn’t see that one coming
  • Troy and Gabrielle’s relationship is a snooze
  • Chad is a douche who expects Troy to do whatever he says and gets pissy when he doesn’t (for real, that has been Chad’s only storyline in every single High School Musical film to date; no wonder Corbin Bleu always looks so pissed off at media events)
  • Sharpei a) is still a wonderful bitchy turd to everyone, especially her super-gay twin brother, and b) gets an “extravagant” musical number
  • Lucas Grabeel is “the most talented of the bunch”
  • The script sucks

But I can’t wait to see it!

Zac Efron shows off his guns in first HSM3 trailer [High School Musical]

Posted in High School Musical, movies, neat!, North Americana, video on July 14, 2008 by jetsamjr

(Um, whatever Zac Efron is doing in the gym is clearly working. When do the tickets to the gun show go on sale?)

Judging by its fabulously cheesy new trailer, High School Musical 3: Senior Year will offer the high standard of crap that fans have come to expect from the franchise: over-produced songs! Hudgens’ simpering looks! Tisdales’s snappy one-liners! I can’t wait!
