11th Doctor = this guy [Doctor Who]

Posted in Britannia, Doctor Who, news on January 4, 2009 by jetsamjr

So I arise this morning to discover that this fellow will be the 11th Doctor:

Doctor Who

His name is Matt Smith, and he’s 26. (26!!! That’s nearly my age several years older than I am!) I love that he’s so young – won’t that be interesting? He is also good-looking, which helps. But I’m no fan of his unruly Robert-Pattinson-in-Twilight-hair, or his strange are-those-prosthetics-or-what pointy elf ears.

Anyway, Matt won’t appear as the Doctor until, like, 2023 (actually it’s 2010), so don’t get too excited about seeing him just yet.

PS, during my summer staycation I watched the utterly enjoyable The Next Doctor. I am really really going to miss David Tennant when he leaves. Matt Smith, big shoes, etc.

Wallace and Gromit returning for Christmas [news]

Posted in animation, Britannia, neat!, news on November 20, 2008 by jetsamjr

Wallace & GromitWallace and Gromit, the duo I unconditionally love and adore, are returning to the BBC this Christmas with their new special A Matter of Loaf and Death (formerly known as Trouble At’ Mill – thank all things plasticine they changed that weird title):

In this new masterpiece viewers will catch up with Wallace and Gromit who have opened a new bakery – Top Bun – and business is booming, not least because a deadly Cereal Killer is targeting all the bakers in town so competition is drying up. Gromit is worried that they may be the next victims but Wallace couldn’t care – he’s fallen head over heels in love with Piella Bakewell, former star of the Bake-O-Lite bread commercials. So Gromit is left to run things on his own when he’d much rather be getting better acquainted with Piella’s lovely pet poodle Fluffles.

Love it.

The Next Doctor [Doctor Who]

The first two minutes of The Next Doctor were screened during the BBC’s Children in Need special, complete with boneheaded, cringy speculation about whether David Morrissey will be the 11th Doctor (or is it the 12th Doctor now?):

Man, I’m going to miss David Tennant.

“What are you doing here?” [Doctor Who]

Posted in Britannia, Doctor Who, hee!, video on October 15, 2008 by jetsamjr

I love it when nerds do nerdy things like this: some nerd has pulled together every “What are you doing here?” ever uttered in Doctor Who into one video. Apparently he made it as a birthday present for a friend:

Skip ahead to 6:50 if you only want to see the instances in the new series.

X-cellent [Doctor Who]

Patrick Stewart guest-starring in Doctor Who? Yes please!

(So long as he gets to camp it up a little. Stewart is awesome in serious roles, like X-Men. But he’s even more awesomer when he’s hamming it up, like Extras.)
